Gambling harm wrecks families and devastates lives.

Over 395,000 people in the UK are estimated to be living with a gambling disorder and a further 1.8 million are considered at risk. Gambling harms also affect the health and wellbeing of families and social networks, employers, communities and society as a whole.

Only a small proportion of those with a gambling disorder seek help, and those that do face the overwhelmingly difficult challenge of rebuilding their lives and sustaining a positive recovery after gambling.

The EPIC Restart Foundation is there for anyone in the UK who needs support to rebuild their lives after gambling harm. Those recovering from a gambling disorder often struggle to mend broken family relationships or get back into meaningful employment and the pressures they face are compounded by complete loss of confidence, self-belief and/or ongoing poor mental health. People can be isolated by their addiction and feel marginalised and excluded – anxious to avoid social situations, feeling imprisoned by the past.

The pressures in recovery can overwhelm and leads to repeated relapse, and some individuals and families remain trapped in the aftermath of the addiction and continue to suffer gambling harms as a result. The lack of support for people in recovery from a gambling disorder and the difficulties people face in rebuilding their lives all contributes to very high relapse rates. We believe that supporting someone to help get their lives, relationships, finances and employment back on track, all contributes to a positive, sustained recovery and reduces the risk of relapse.

Together we can rebuild lives and overcome gambling harm.

We bring together healthcare professionals, learning and development experts, clinical treatment providers and those with lived experience of gambling harm to create innovative and transformational programmes that are changing lives.

We do not offer therapy, we offer delegates an opportunity to increase self-awareness and resilience, refresh skills, improve employability, and re-discover their confidence and self-belief: to sustain their personal journey of recovery and help re-build lives after gambling harm

"Truly grateful for your organisation's unwavering support and the opportunities offered to me".

Our impact

We are a charity testing a new approach in support of the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harm. We are delighted that our programme is being independently evaluated by measurement and evaluation specialists RG Plus. This will help demonstrate the impact of our programme on helping to support those on their recovery journey.

We are also creating an empowered community who will benefit from EPIC Restart Foundation’s supportive network, and who will use their voice to contribute to reducing gambling harm to others.

Our 2021 pilot programme supported over 70 people and received powerful feedback.

Delegates reported a wide range of benefits including improved confidence and self-belief; a renewed sense of purpose and an increased ability to manage personal finances.

Delegates have gone on to secure new jobs, reconnect with their families and have built more positive personal support networks to help sustain their recovery
