EPIC Community session

In this EPIC community session, we will welcome Richard and Steve, who are going to share their stories of resilience.

Both have overcome adversity and will share how their experiences helped shape them into the individuals they are today.

About the speakers

Steve Sampher

Steve’s story looks at his military career in the army and how he sustained a traumatic brain injury and became an amputee as a result of an IED while serving in Afghanistan in 2012. Steve goes on to look at his journey with PTSD and how finding the right medical professional, as well as the support of his family, has helped him through.

Richard Pottter, Captain Royal Logistics Corps, British Army

After injuring his ankle during a cup semi final football game, Richard had surgery to repair a hole in his ankle, but was soon after rushed back to the hospital, having discovered that he had an aggressive form of sepsis from the surgery. Richard was later told that he was suffering with CRPS and after having undergone multiple surgeries and rehab to repair his
ankle, he decided to have an elective amputation to have his left leg below the knee removed. He says his amputation "was the right thing for me and for my family".

Since his amputation, Richard has gone on to achieve a Masters in Business Administration, built his own home.
